The WaveSaw is an instrument created for Music 250 (Physical Interaction Design for Music.) It uses flex sensors to measure the curvature at a number of points on a flexible metal \"blade.\" These measurements are used to recreate the shape of the blade in the computer, and this shape can be used as a wavetable for scanned synthesis or as a spectral shape to be applied to another signal.
